Hungary is a parliamentary representative democratic republic. The Prime Minister is the head of government and the President is the head of state. The Prime Minister is elected by the National Assembly, while the President is elected by the general public. The unicameral National Assembly consists of 199 members who are elected to serve four-year terms. The political system in Hungary operates under a multi-party system, which means that there are several parties represented in parliament. These parties can be divided into two main groups: left-leaning and right-leaning. The current governing party is Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance, which is a right-leaning party led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
