Israel. In February, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon launched a plan to close all Jewish settlements in the occupied Gaza Strip and also four settlements on the West Bank. Settlers who voluntarily left Gaza would receive at least the equivalent of US $ 200,000 in compensation. They would be free to move wherever they wanted, even to settlements on the West Bank. The plan, which was part of Sharon’s effort to make Israel independent of the Palestinians, was intensively debated as the violence in the Gaza Strip intensified during the year.

According to CountryAAH, the total population in Israel is 8,655,546 people in 2020. The criticism of the plan was sharp, both from the opposition, from members of Sharon’s own Conservative party Likud and from other parties in the coalition government. After Sharon dismissed two critically-appointed ministers, the government approved the plan in a June 6 vote. After the government vote, another minister left the government in protest, which meant that the government turned into a minority minister. But with the support of the Social Democratic Labor Party, which wanted to see the settlers leave Gaza, Sharon got through his proposal on October 26 in the Knesset (Parliament). On December 30, Sharon and Labor Party leader Shimon Peres agreed to form a new coalition government to secure the future of the Gaza Plan.

In June-July, the Supreme Court ruled that parts of the so-called security barrier that the government had built on the West Bank constituted a violation of the human rights of Palestinians. Parts of the barrier had to be moved, the court explained, and also ordered a halt to the construction of the part of the barrier that would run southeast of Jerusalem. A few weeks later, the International Court of Justice in The Hague declared that the barrier constituted a violation of international law because it was erected on occupied land. The barrier was planned to be over 70 km long, partly in the form of a wall, partly in the form of a fence. According to abbreviationfinder, IL stands for Israel in text.

In January, Israel and Turkey signed an agreement under which Turkey would provide Israel with water in exchange for tanks and combat equipment.

Israeli war crimes in Gaza

Following Hamas’ election victory in January 2006, Israel conducted several comprehensive blockades of Gaza. In Israel’s analysis, the Western World will refrain from criticizing Israel’s war crimes against the people of Gaza because Hamas is Palestine’s elected government. On the site 194now.net/Killingfields Israel’s attack on Gaza can be followed day by day. In June 2008, an informal ceasefire was concluded between Israel, Hamas and the militant groups in Gaza. Israel refrained from carrying out major invasions and attacks in Gaza’s slums and refugee camps against militant groups launching their rocket attacks into Israel. The ceasefire continued until November 4, when Israel decided to resume its attacks on the people of Gaza. It happened when the country liquidated 6 members of Hamas. The militant groups in Gaza resumed their rocket attacks. Israel’s excuse for its war actions is self-defense – it has to answer the attacks from Gaza. But in November, it was Israel that broke the ceasefire, and the loss figures spoke their clear language. Amnesty International stated, that 420 Palestinians in 2008 up to November 2008 had been killed by the Israeli attack forces (IOF), half of them unarmed civilians and 80 of them children. On the Israeli side, 24 were killed, including 4 children. See sunglasseswill.com for Israel travel guide.

Concurrent with the resumption of its war actions against Gaza, Israel initiated a total blockade of the area. Israeli pirates on the Israeli military’s ships enforced a sea blockade that did not allow Palestinian boats to fish or ships with relief to enter Gaza. All emergency supplies into the area were discontinued and the electricity supply from Israel reduced (Israel had already bombed and destroyed most of Gaza’s electric power stations). Amnesty International declared on November 14, 2008: «The Israeli military has completely blocked all supplies of humanitarian aid, medicine, oil and electricity to Gaza. It is nothing more than collective punishment of Gaza’s civilian population. At the same time, Israel is blocking all foreign journalists and diplomats from entering the area. Israel does not want the world to see the suffering they expose Gaza 1, 5 million inhabitants for ». And 14 days later, the President of the UN General Assembly, Miguel D’Escoto Brockmann, declared: “Israel’s actions towards the West Bank and Gaza are reminiscent of past tenses.” At the same time, Brockmann pointed out that sanctions against Israel may be needed to stop it from committing its war crimes. However, the Western world continued its open acceptance of Israeli actions, and the EU discussed the same period of upgrading of EU-Israel trade relations. Despite massive North American assistance to Israel, its primary trading partner is the EU. that sanctions against Israel may be needed to bring it to a halt to its war crimes. Israel launched terrorist bombings on Gaza refugee camps on December 27, 2008. Officially to hit Hamas, but human rights organizations could quickly report that over half of the 300 killed in 2-day aerial bombings were civilians. Observers pointed out that with just 40 days for elections in Israel and the government’s weakened position, the most likely cause was the desire to win the forthcoming election by killing several hundred Palestinians.

Israel began its invasion of Gaza on January 3, 2009, and from that day the state’s war crimes escalated drastically with attacks on schools, hospitals, ambulances (22 doctors, nurses and ambulance people had been killed by Israeli soldiers until January 10), UN relief convoys, but first and foremost the Gaza civilian population. Despite Israel’s attempts to blackout its massacres in Gaza by hindering journalists’ access to the area, images nonetheless emerged. to senior UN officials recommended Israel before the International Court of Justice in The Hague for its war crimes and for several European social democracies to make a historic decision by recommending sanctions on the country. The Olmert government acknowledged the gravity of the situation when, at the end of the month, it banned the media from bringing names and pictures of officers who had participated in the massacres in Gaza. It stated at the same time that it would do its utmost to prevent them from being brought before courts abroad charged with war crimes.

Meanwhile, a Spanish investigating judge continued his work on preparing charges against former Israeli War Minister Benjamin Eliezer and 5 other senior war criminals for their war crimes in Gaza in 2002.

On February 23, 2009, Amnesty International published a comprehensive report on the war crimes in Gaza: Fueling conflict: Foreign arms supplies to Israel / Gaza. In the report, Amnesty International recommended an international arms blockade by both Israel and Hamas, and at the same time strongly criticized Israeli arms suppliers in the US and the EU for their contribution to Israel’s war crimes. The call for a blockade was an indication that Israel was becoming increasingly isolated worldwide.

Election 2009

On February 10, Israel conducted parliamentary elections. Before then, the state had banned the Palestinian parties, which until then had represented the country’s $ 1 million. Palestinian residents. The major winners of the election were the radical right wing represented by the parties Yisrael Beiteinu and Likud. Yisrael Beiteinu, led by former Russian doorman Avigdor Lieberman, openly demanded all Palestinians be thrown out of both Israel and the occupied territories. While the Western world demanded the Palestinian government, led by Hamas, to recognize the state of Israel, both Yisrael Beiteinu and Likud openly stated that there will never be any Palestinian state. At the election, the sitting government party, Kadima narrowly became the largest, but the radical right wing advanced so strongly that Benjamin Netanyahu of Likud was given the task of forming a new government. At the election, Yisrael Beiteinu, as expected, became the country’s third largest and overtook the Labor Party.

Likud chairman Benyamin Netanyahu presented his new government on March 31, 2009, based on the extreme right wing. The most prominent position against the outside world was Avigdor Lieberman, who became Foreign Minister. In an attempt to soften the government’s right-wing character traits to the outside world, Netanyahu sought to include the center-right parties Kadima and the Labor Party in his government. It was blankly rejected by Kadima, while the Labor Party that was halved at the election agreed. The party’s chairman Ehud Barak only got his party to accept government participation with a narrow majority. To hold together the many kings of the right-wing parties in government, Netanyahu had to appoint no less than 30 ministers. The highest number in any Israeli government to date.

March 2009. Israeli soldiers admit war crimes in Gaza

Initially, only the Palestinian victims in Gaza spoke of Israeli war crimes. The crimes were later confirmed by the UN and later by human rights organizations to conduct extensive investigations. In March, the tour came to Israeli soldiers who began to publicly speak out about the crimes they had witnessed and about the Israeli “rules of engagement” that had no restrictions on limiting the killing of Palestinian civilians. The Israeli claim from the start of the terror war against Gaza that Israel did everything to protect the civilian population was thus dismantled. The casualties of the war were: 1,200 civilians killed and 250 partisans.

One shot, two murders

In its propaganda, Israel likes to call its soldiers as soldiers with the highest morals in the world. Propaganda does not match reality. The Israeli daily Ha’aretz was able to bring photos of soldiers wearing T-shirts at the end of March 2009 calling for the murder of Palestinian civilians. They had been given the clothing from the Israeli military. The text on a T-shirt was “1 shot 2 kills” with a drawing of a pregnant Palestinian woman. The text on another T-shirt was “The smaller, the harder” and showed a drawing of a child with a rifle. Ha’aretzhad interviewed one of the soldiers about the meaning of this T-shirt, and he stated: ‘there is a double meaning in it. It is a child after all, so there may be some moral scruples, and then it is because the target is harder to hit ». A third T-shirt showed a soldier jumping a mosque in the air with the text “Only God Forgives”.
