Bahamas. The total population in Bahamas is 393,255 people in 2020. The Bahamas was hit in September by two severe hurricanes, Frances and Jeanne, with only three weeks apart. Hundreds of people had their homes destroyed by whipping rain and heavy winds of over 50 meters per second. The damage was worst on the islands of Great Abaco and Grand Bahama where large areas flooded. Among other things, the airport of Grand Bahama was under water. Two deaths were reported.

Nassau

Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas; 246,300 residents (2011). The city center is small and the residential suburbs are widespread. Three old fortresses, the Government Building and the Anglican Cathedral are prominent buildings. The sea gardens are the main attraction. International airport is available.

Nassau was founded by Englishmen around 1660.
